I’ve installed WordPress on the site so now the news/updates page is comments-enabled. I thought it might be handy to be able to respond directly without having to e-mail or post in the guestbook, which has limited interactivity.
I’m all for making the site more interactive(thumbs up)…can’t wait to see the lengthy discussions about various aspects of Supergirl…whether Streaky should be brought back… should Supergirl have a secret identity…what type of relationship she should have with Power Girl(big sister, mentor or a bit of both)? And those are just a few that come to mind…
It’ll be even more interactive now that I’ve figured out I have to approve comments before they appear…
But yes. Let the Streaky discussions commence.
I thought that might be the reason my comments from yesterday didn’t show up…kind of makes my email to you redundant.
Okay. Does the fact that Streaky was associated with Supergirl and, would Supergirl having a cat as a pet, in general, perpetuate the stereotype that cats are for women and dogs are for men(i.e. Superman has Krypto…in several languages the word for ‘cat’ is feminine, while the word for ‘dog’ is masculine)? Or am I seeing something that’s not there?
On a less serious note: given that the current Supergirl is drawn like Paris Hilton(IMHO), shouldn’t she have a ‘purse dog’? :p
“Does the fact that Streaky was associated with Supergirl and, would Supergirl having a cat as a pet, in general, perpetuate the stereotype that cats are for women and dogs are for men?”
Well, yeah, it would. Wouldn’t hurt none. But I don’t think either Superman or Supergirl should have a pet nowadays. It’s just too Silver Age-y and cutesy (although the new Krypto scares the poop outta me!) They’re not pet-owning people, it’s just not in their character. Mary Marvel, sure.
I could totally see Kara with a purse dog…but it would only live about 5 minutes before dying in a horrible accidental death-by-laser-vision. And then she would gripe about it as proof of how much her life sucks for the next 3 issues. Actually, I could kind of see the Legion Supergirl having a cat.

Yeah, but after the recent creepy scenes in Kandor, ‘cutesy’ would be a welcome change…maybe a guest appearance by Mary Marvel would help…
Yeah, just when I think things can’t get any weirder, the next issue comes out (flipped thru #8 today). I’m starting to suspect Supergirl has to be taking place in a parallel universe. Would explain how Power Girl is in so places at once.
I don’t mind Power Girl making a lot of appearances, as long as it isn’t repetitive fight scenes…I’m hoping a big sister/mentor relationship will develop between her and Supergirl…but first, Supergirl will have to get the chip off her shoulder, something with which PG can definitely help…
Oh, more PG is always good. I like seeing the two of them together; they make a good team (when done right).
