Upcoming issues

I’ve added the covers and sale dates for Supergirl #14, Legion of Super-Heroes #27, and the second Supergirl TPB, which apparently is titled “Supergirl: Candor” (a terrible pun on the Kandor arc) and reprints a real grab-bag of issues (SUPERGIRL #6-9, SUPERMAN/BATMAN #27, SUPERMAN #223, and JLA #122-123). I’ve also split the Power Girl issues onto their own page and updated that with the second Justice Society of America which is coming out in February.

  1. so, we’re basically getting only FOUR issues of Supergirl in a trade (+ some extra issues)?
that’s kind of sad,if you think about it(maybe they should have waited and released the trade later, w/ the OYL material)

  2. The way the OYL stuff is hit and miss and seems to have no direction(as of yet…I’m trying to be hopeful:-)), I don’t see that it would improve the TPB. Maybe when the writer gets more comfortable with the character and finds a direction(still trying to be hopeful), DC will a storyline worth collecting in a TPB.

  3. Personally I was quite pleased to see them include the issues in which Supergirl guest starred, because those issues are pertinent to the storyline and I for one tend not to pick up issues of other series in which my favourite character appears. Of course, it would be a lot better if the Kandor arc and Superman 223 weren’t so godawful (never read JLA 122-123 or S/B 27). I wish they’d included the Wonder Woman issues Supergirl appeared in as well. Don’t know whether those are pertinent to the storyline at all.

It would have been nice to see DC putting this much effort into collecting Supergirl back when it was Linda Danvers. The effort seems really wasted on this storyline.

  4. To whoever spoke of the sexual ojbectification and swearing in Supergirl new series #11, did you complain to DC comics? Because the way I see it Supergirl and other related heroes are supposed to be family entertainment, and if no-one complains then they will probably be under the impression that people don’t mind this stuff. I know I mind it.

  5. By the way, hi everyone. As you’ll have guessed I’m new! But I’ve loved Supergirl and her big cousin since the minute I was born, so I’d really love to become a regular here, but I have no home computer so I’ll only be on during the day, if you’ll accept me! I also love Spidey and Doctor Who.

  6. Andy, I have no complaints about the swearing in that issue – my complaint was over the silliness of throwing in typical teenage swearing only to bleep it out like in the newspaper funnies, as if *that* stuff needed censoring but the *really* offensive stuff in the comic was just fine.

As for the sexual objectification in Supergirl, it’s been a problem from day 1 (although #11 took it to new heights…or lows) and enough people have been writing letters to DC about it and complaining loudly and intelligently online that DC has been forced to publically acknowledge the fandom displeasure. Whether or not they truly understand the *reasons* for it is another thing (see my post on Eddie Berganza’s editorial). But at least some of the *writers and artists* seem to get it. We know some of them are reading the blog and forum discussions because they’ve come in and responded.

  7. Hi guys I’m not in complaining mode today, I’m just gonna talk about Superman and his cuz! Not just now thuough, I’ve art club to attend!

  8. Just on quickly, if there’s any British people on this site, Smallville is on E4 tonight, late. I think other people from other countries can watch on cable or Sky. I’m gonna go home n watch Supergirl tonight, partly cos I love the Superfamily, and partly cos I’ve a huuge crush on Helen Slater!

  9. Bought Supergirl and the Legion of Superheroes last week, looks quite good, gonna read it later.

  10. Hi Michelle. About sexual objectification in comics, why don’t you post to dccomics.com’s message board. That way you’ll definitely get your opinions across. Bye

  11. No. Though I did see what you were talking about with sexual objectification. This is just MY opinion, but the current Supergirl at times acts the way you’d expect a prostitute to act. You couldn’t imagine Superman saying some of the sexual innuendo in her current comics, which are sometimes from what I’ve seen anyway, more like one of those bawdy “comedy” movies from years ago, like “Carry On…”.

  12. For the record, I don’t want to see sex in any superhero comics either. This is just my opinion but I want to read a decent superhero story. Rant over! There’s a new Superman comic out, though I know this is a Supergirl site, but I thought you guys would like to know. It’s called Superman Legends, and they are doing a very good story were Superman goes away and returns to find Earth ravaged even more by evil and disaster.

  13. I looked through the new Supergirl no11 yesterday. Who the hell thought that lesbianism “Devon went an’ groped Akiela…” and incest ” brother who has icky feelings for his little sis…” were suitable for kids to see in comics? Sexuality and incest are things they should find out about when they are older.

  14. I’m disabling comments on this post as it is many months old and the discussion is closed. The comments have gotten considerably off track and no one is reading them at this point.
