Smallville 7×20: Arctic – Initial Thoughts

That was pretty exciting =)

In no particular order, my thoughts on this episode. Spoilers!

- I was resigned to Kara being controlled by Brainiac, so the reveal did actually surprise me. Being surprised is nice =)
- I love that Chloe was instrumental in bringing down Brainiac. But I’m sad that no one seems to realize that, because she deserves the credit. The idea of her power “curing” the disease that is Brainiac is really cool.
- As soon as I saw where Jimmy was going at the end I started screaming: don’t propose to her, noooo! You’re too young, you’ll break up, it’s a stupid thing to do, bad things always happen when people propose! And see? Something bad happened.
- So Kristin Kreuk didn’t make it back to appear, just “phoned” in a scene at the end. Guess it couldn’t be helped. My boyfriend took her video message to Clark as a sign that they’re writing her out of the show, that it’s finally over between them, but I insisted that on this show, that kind of ultimatum means nothing. We’ll see next season who’s right ^_^
- They’re really building that Clark and Lois relationship, huh? My boyfriend loves that =) I could go either way.
- Lex in the Fortress in his black leather coat and leather gloves looked SO EVIL. I loved it!
- They destroyed the Fortress! It can be rebuilt though, right? RIGHT? I love the Fortress. But, um, wouldn’t Lex have been killed in all that falling debris? And how exactly did that whole Clark being controlled by him work? He fell to the ground and looked all helpless, which was slashy as hell – “I loved you like a brother” – a brother, riiiight – but I expected more.
- When Kara revealed to Lex that she is an alien, a Kryptonian, and has superpowers, I was flipping out trying to figure out how they were going to fix that next season. And then he ends up at the Fortress and finds out about Clark too? Can’t explain that away with “that wasn’t really Kara”. How the hell are they going reverse that next year? I was betting on some kind of mindwipe from Jor-El, but now I’m not sure if he’ll be around to do that for them. Can’t go with the “I was possessed and therefore have no memory” out this time.
- Kara’s in the Phantom Zone! Cool! Yes, I was pissed that she never actually came back from Krypton, and didn’t get to be part of the story. But…I am a huge sucker for that Phantom Zone floating crystal thingie, have been ever seen seeing Superman II when I was a kid. I’m hoping that the Fortress’ destruction frees her from the crystal, because I don’t actually want to revisit that plotline again. She has to escape and rescue Clark, right?

  1. I was surprised that when Brainiac said he did something worse than death to Kara and that Clark will never find her, he didn’t immediately think “Phantom Zone”, I mean he’s even been there >.> That’s immediately what I thought. xD

I hope they do something more interesting to Lex than a simple deus ex machina mind wipe. XD Maybe kid lex isn’t dead at all, and buries the memory to protect Clark :]

I still maintain that Lex and Clark are making out under the ice right now :D

  2. And Kara was wearing reverse colours so I was like “that’s not Kara is it”. XD

Supergirl was in the Phanton Zone before…in the Supergirl movie.

  4. Michelle says:

Well, yeah. Different incarnation tho. I’m still undecided whether I prefer the 2-D or 3-D version of the gateway.

    _____________
Whereas *I* was surprised Clark managed to figure out so quickly that Brainiac was at fault there!

  6. Michelle says:

Clearly being forced to figure things out on his own for a little while, away from Chloe, helped reawaken those brain cells. See Clark, you can do it if you try!

    I agreed with you
