So, what does everyone think of the upcoming MMORPG for PC and PS3? Here are two videos: Making Of and E3 2008: Live Wire Demo.

As I understand it, you can’t play any of the established DC heroes/villains, but you can create original characters that are unique or based on templates of the big characters. I can’t figure out how this is going to work. Won’t that mean there will be tons of (for example) Supergirl-copies in variously tweaked forms? Won’t that seem kind of…sad? Weird? Confusing? Sure, I’d LOVE to create my own ultimate version of Supergirl and not have to go with the game version, but so will tons of other people. At the same time, I’d rather play the *real* characters (like Batwoman, for example) than a knock-off, but of course that wouldn’t work in an MMORPG.

I just don’t know how this is gonna play out. It won’t be like City of Heroes where you can create an almost-clone of your favorite characters: by having the “real” characters there, it will make any knock-offs seem lesser by comparison. I’m also not a fan of Jim Lee’s character designs of many of the characters.
