I just read #32 and am a bit taken aback. No spoilers because it just came out (comments may be another thing). That was a sudden and unexpected end to the storyline which really didn’t make a lot of sense. [EDIT: I was under the impression that this was the ending of the "Saving Thomas" storyline, but that may be the next issue.] It certainly wasn’t momentous enough to warrant the melodramatic blurb for #33:
“Coming off the most devastating decision of her young career, Supergirl finds herself at a crossroads. Is she worthy of the “S” she wears? Can she involve herself in the affairs of humans again after misusing her powers so badly? Enter the Empress (of YOUNG JUSTICE fame), who has a whole different perspective on the matter!”
“Most devastating decision”? “Misusing her powers so badly”? Did I read the wrong issue? I still don’t know how Kara did what she did, or even what she actually did. But I found it difficult to be emotionally invested once I realized where it was going. We know there’s going to be no change in the status quo once the story’s over.
Really annoyed by the change in artist for the last issue in the storyline. It’s hard to maintain the feel of an arc when that happens.
first time poster. i followed a link from the supergirl commentary… hope you don’t mind…
heh, blurbs do have a tendency to blow things out of proportion :)… i wonder how out of proportion spoilers could get on a quiet, talky issue…
on the other hand, i do look forward to an issue with empress in it. i haven’t gotten as far into ‘young justice’ to read about empress yet, so she’s a blank slate to me. but, having her appear in supergirl really seems to come out of left-field… i hope it goes well…
Yeah, you can never trust the blurbs =) Which is why I felt okay printing this one after saying the post would contain no spoilers. For once, this blurb was vague enough not to ruin the story. Still, I gotta wonder – somebody in editorial is giving story info to copy writers to distill down into attention grabbing blurbs, and they get it wrong often enough that I start to wonder if that’s how someone involved in the issue actually perceived the story.
Generally I avoid reading the blurbs because they usually succeed in both spoiling me and giving me a completely inaccurate impression of the issue.
Forgot to ask, which Supergirl commentary did you follow? Just for curiosity’s sake :-) And first time posters are always welcome if they’re friendly ;-)
The blurbs for this run have been awful throughout, only made worse by the sudden inclusion of the rest issue #30 without a change in the issue’s description.
That said, the blurb for issue 34, the new jump start, is equally awful in its lack of words … “Beginning the new direction for SUPERGIRL, which will tie the book and character firmly into the Superman franchise!” No mention of what the plot is at all. Barely a mention of Kara at all.
BTW, hope you don’t mind I added a link to this blog on mine.
Thanks! I linked your site in my blogroll earlier as well ;-)
