Why I won’t be buying SUPERMAN/SUPERGIRL: Maelstrom

Review at Supergirl Comic Box Commentary.

I’m not going to buy something that carelessly misogynistic. I may not even read it in downloads – I don’t need the aggravation. Very, very disappointed in DC right now.

I’m just going to pretend this mini is out of continuity, like the useless Brave and the Bold #17/18 two-parter. It might as well be: it takes place sometime before the New Gods are killed, doesn’t really fit anywhere into Supergirl’s continuity, and has both its principles acting out of character. The reviews I’ve seen so far have been negative, even from people who don’t notice sexism (IGN). I hope people resist buying it just because of the names, and let it sink like the rock it is.

  1. I totally agree. I bought the issue and was shaking my head the entire time. Though Phil Noto’s artwork is amazing! I too am at wit’s end with DC. The whole New Gods/Final Crisis thing… come on. They have all these talented writers that are shooting out this amature stuff. The stories have great potential but always flop in the end. Anyways, I, like yourself, am a HUGE Supergirl nut and am tired of Kara crying every issue because she didn’t do something right. I applaud Sterling Gates for taking Kara in a new direction. I can’t wait for SG #35 to come out! But what I’m trying to say is that SUPERMAN/SUPERGIRL: MALELSTROM = suck. Though I will get the whole series. I’m on a mission to get every comic book EVER with Supergirl in it… even the horrible Raven/SG Brave and the Bold… what the hell was that?!….

  2. i’ve read parts on LiveJournal’s hugely popular scans_daily, and was so disappointed. the interaction between Superman and his cousin just didn’t feel right. don’t these writers know better? guess they don’t.

looking forward to Supergirl #35 too. :D

  3. That’s one sereis I WON’T BUY. :D

Seriously…. Does DC even think about pleasing their fans anymore?
