If you’re in Los Angeles this week (March 23-27), you can catch current SUPERGIRL penciller Bernard Chang drawing Supergirl pages live and in person at DJ’s Universal Comics in Studio City, California.

ARTIST BERNARD CHANG RELOCATES STUDIO TO DJ’S UNIVERSAL COMICS STORESUPERGIRL artist Bernard Chang will be relocating his drawing table to the friendly confines of DJ’s Universal Comics in Studio City, CA. From March 23-27, Chang will be working “in house” on actual pages from his upcoming issue of the teenage Kryptonian superhero. This is a great opportunity to come see an actual comic book being created in person, as well as checking out one of the best local comic book shops in Los Angeles.
“Rarely do people ever see an actual page in progress,” said Chang, “and Cat Jercan (owner) was gracious enough to let me set up shop in his store to share this process with fans. I use to live down the street from his former location and always thought it would be a cool idea to actually create a comic book in a comic book store.”
For more information, call Cat @ 818-761-3465. DJ’s Universal Comics is located at 11390 Ventura Blvd #9 (on the second level above Fat Jacks, at the intersection of Tujunga and Ventura), Studio City, CA 91604 or go online @ djscomics.com and facebook.com/djsuniversalcomics
And remember, please do not feed the artist.
You may recall that I was pretty rough on Chang when it was announced that he was taking over from Jamal Igle. (His How To… work certainly affected how I viewed his subsequent work.) But this morning Bernard sent me a friendly email about his appearance at DJ’s, and that reminded me that I have yet to post my reviews of his issues. I found myself liking his guest stint on SUPERGIRL #57 a whole lot more than I expected (I liked the faces a lot more than in his previous guest-star work). I’ve only seen his first two issues as regular penciller so far, and there are definitely things I like. I just find myself wishing his female characters weren’t so pencil-thin. There are some very cute panels of Kara in her new short hair, and I am pleased to see Linda sporting glasses that are a bit hipper. (In fact, all the characters are delightfully fashionable, which is a rare quality in superhero comics.)
It would be incredibly cool to see the creation of an actual issue as it happens, so if you’re in the area, check it out and tell me what it was like!
Hi there. This is my first post here and I only recently discovered this website a little over a year ago. It’s been a great resource for anything Supergirl related for me and I just wanted to say thanks. I also wanted everyone to know that I went to see Bernard Chang today and it was an absolute pleasure speaking to him. He seemed to genuinely care about the material he was working on and even made it a point to ask us fans about little details he wasn’t too sure of. While I can’t reveal any news about the upcoming issue he was working on. Of which I myself only know little about by the way. I will say that I got to contribute a little idea that he may or may not use in the issue which for any fan, is an absolute dream come true. I will be heading back to the store to see Bernard again tomorrow so before I head out, if there’s anyone that may have any questions to ask. I’ll try and see if I can get them answered for you. No guarantees though. Oh by the way. Bryan Q Miller, writer of Batgirl happened to stop by the store today as I found out that he is a frequent customer at the store as well!
That sounds awesome! How lucky to catch two creators on the same trip. Sounds like the place to be :)
Indeed it is the place to be. :)
