Barbara Gordon Reverted to Batgirl: Where Do We Go From Here?

DCU confirms it through an IGN exclusive: Barbara Gordon is the new Batgirl.

I just spent the last hour (okay, two hours) ranting on and off to my boyfriend about what this means, the complete destruction of Barbara’s legacy as the progenitor of the bat women and the erasing of multiple female characters who have already been shamefully treated. Lucky for you that means you don’t have to hear it.

Because you know what? I don’t want to complain impotently on the internet about this. Brilliant op-eds are not my strength. I want to write a real letter to DC, a positive and polite letter, that might actually have a chance of being read, rather than wail online to people who are already nodding along. Because I’m fairly sure TPTB at DC pay no need to us here. They’ve demonstrated that amazingly well this month.

So don’t expect any rants from this site in the near future. Time to rethink the strategy. I’m still in shock. Pretty sure I’ve gone through a few of the stages of grief already over multiple titles, so it’s probably best I don’t post anything until I’m recovered from the news that will continue to come out of DC.

The titles are already set at this point. Creators are assigned, characters are picked and costumes created. All we can do now is provide direct feedback, in as approachable a manner as possible (which is more can be said for the way they launch these things on their customers). Because it’s quite clear they haven’t a clue why people buy their books.
