Rumor about the new Supergirl writers (CONFIRMED)

Update: this rumor was confirmed by DC in the June 10 announcement.

I’ve reversed my previous position on ignoring Bleeding Cool’s rumors, after seeing so many of them pan out. Here’s our first rumor for Supergirl.

I understand that the writers of the yet-to-be-announced Supergirl #1 are Michael Green and Mike Johnson, best known for their Superman/Batman work.

Green produced and wrote early episodes of Smallville and is also co-writer of the Green Lantern movie, the Heroes TV show and the creator of Kings. Johnson co-wrote for Kings, as well as the Fringe comic.

I don’t like any of those properties, and none treat female characters very well (I’m not counting the Fringe comic tie-in either way). Two writers doesn’t bode well either: it implies that at least one of them isn’t capable of writing a book on their own.

My negativity may have been premature. Green and Johnson wrote the Tim and Kara team-up in Superman/Batman, which sounds like it was pretty good. Looks like I should check that out, since I missed it before. A spot of good news amongst all the bad?

No news on the artist yet.

This post has been edited to clarify my comments on the writers’ previous works.

  1. Hmm and I thought they might find an author to tackle this a bit more like Supergirl Cosmic Adventures. Will still buy it to try though.

  2. BRING ON THE SUPER GIRL MOVIE AND DO SUPERMAN PROUD AND KEEP TRUE TO THE TRADITIONAL OUTFIT!!!
