Supergirl 1996 added to Comixology!

DC Comics is finally releasing the 1996 Supergirl series starring Linda Danvers on Comixology. Hurray!

The first three issues were released July 1 and 3 more issues are being released every week. That’s an astonishingly fast schedule. At this rate, all 80 issues will be complete as of Dec 30, 2015 in a mere 27 weeks. Most of this series has never been reprinted, so I’m interested to see what people think about it.

I honestly never thought this would happen. I launched this site in the midst of the Peter David run, and I have a lot of nostalgia for this version of the character. It’s not for everyone, and I have no problem with that. But it’s always nice to run into another fan who loves Linda Danvers.

In addition to a digital release, Amazon is listing an upcoming paperback titled “Supergirl by Peter David & Gary Frank” for release in March 2016. This is a reprint of the 1998 trade paperback collecting the first 9 issues of the 1996 series. I’m very curious to see if DC is just reprinting existing collections, or if they will actually collect the rest of the series for the first time ever.

Thanks to the upcoming Supergirl TV series, all sorts of possibilities are opening up for DC to cash in on their back catalog. They appear to be moving back in time after filling in the missing issues and collections in the 2005 and 2011 series.
