Supergirl and the Legion of Super-Heroes (2006-2007)

The present-day Supergirl was introduced to the 31st century Legion of Super-Heroes when she travelled through time after being hit by a “zeta beam” during the company-wide crossover series Infinite Crisis. She arrives believing that she is dreaming her surroundings into existence, to the amusing consternation of the Legionnaires. Supergirl discovers that in the future she is regarded as a beloved legendary hero, and is soon accepted as a Legion member. Supergirl’s delight at being in the future brings a joyful, optimistic Silver Age vibe to the world of the Legionnaires.

Although the series is renamed “Supergirl and the Legion of Super-Heroes” to commemorate her joining the book, she does not take over from the regular characters, but adds to the strength of their team. The story is self-contained and does not relate to events taking place simultaneously in the ongoing Supergirl series. I loved this series and was sad when Supergirl had to leave. The series rapidly deteriorated after she left, due to writer change, is why the subsequent issues are not listed here. Supergirl’s time with the Legion seems to have done her a lot of good (once she regained her memories of it! – see Supergirl #22 and #23) and these issues are a wonderful addition to the current Supergirl canon.
