Laura Vandervoort will reprise her role as Kara for the second-to-last episode on Smallville. The episode, titled Prophecy, will air May 6, 2011.
Update: View promo photos of Laura in this episode.
Episode description includes spoilers if you haven’t been keeping up with Clark and Lois’ relationship on Smallville.
Clark takes Lois to the Fortress to get Jor-El’s blessing for their marriage. Jor-El bestows a unique wedding gift on the couple – he gives Lois Clark’s super powers so she can see what it’s like to be him for a day. Unfortunately, the Toyman has returned to Metropolis, so Lois must go up against the notorious villain instead of Clark. Meanwhile, Oliver searches for the Bow of Orion, which he believes will remove the Omega symbol from his skull, and runs into Kara, who is also on a mission to stop Darkseid.
The “Lois gains Superman’s powers and experiences the joys and burdens of his life” is a classic plot and such an integral element of the mythos that it’s only fitting that cite>Smallville do their own take before the series ends. I’m sure Smallville fans will enjoy it a great deal. Sounds like Kara will be mostly interacting with Green Arrow. Here’s hoping she goes out strong and gets a good showing against Darkseid. I probably won’t be seeing the episode for a while, as I have no urgent need to catch up on the final season right now.
Air dates for the final episodes:
TV Line announced on January 30, 2011 that Laura Vandervoort will return as Kara for one last time in one of the show’s final five episodes: Smallville Scoop: Supergirl Returns.

I’m going to guess it’s the untitled episode, but it could any besides the Booster Gold episode.
Update: IMDB lists Prophecy as the second and final Season 10 episode for Laura.
CBR just posted a big batch of Smallville “Supergirl” stills. And Spoiler TV has even more in super high res.
They’re AWESOME.

Dramatic rooftop pose!

Linda Danvers in another exciting career outfit! Sure, nobody would dress or wear their hair like that today, but 1970s’ Linda Danvers would!

Can this be the new official Supergirl costume for outside the comics, please? I LOVE IT SO MUCH.

Left: More of the alternate costume! The colours are much better than in the video interview.
Right: Laura looking very Lynda Carter-as-Diana Prince. Her knowing little smile is too cute!
One more “Supergirl” pose to finish:

The new season of Smallville starts this Friday, and Laura Vandervoort has been busy doing interviews for the episode Supergirl which airs October 8.
First up is a recent video interview with Laura on set where she hits the highlights of what Kara is doing in this episode. She’s sporting a new “Supergirl colours” outfit which is pretty cool. Not sure about the yellow t-shirt, but I love the blue jacket.

(On the last question: how dumb do you have to be to still be asking about a Supergirl spin-off series or movie? Also, kind of tacky posing that question to Laura, with the way the Smallville producers messed her around.)
I’m definitely interested in learning what Kara’s been doing since season 8 and why she’s coming back into Clark’s life now. There’s a big ol’ gap there that’s unexplained. Definitely calls for a Smallville Supergirl comic tie-in to fill in the missing time (although having seen the previous sucktastic Smallville comics, I’m pretty sure the fanfic can do better =P)

Laura talks about Smallville from 1:50 to 3:08 (end) of the video. This is prior to shooting to the episode. She says we can expect,
A lot of Clark and Kara discovering their past and what she’s found while she’s been away for the year, about their family.
People have always wondered why Clark can’t fly, and that’s going to be kind of discovered in this episode.
It’ll be good, it’ll be the usual banter between the two of them, as well, as cousins.
Clark has been actively trying to fly since at least in episode 9×01, “Savior”. Jor-El told Clark then that he couldn’t fly because he still sees himself as human. (Youtube clip) Typical Jor-El dickishness aside, Clark fears becoming too alien and losing his identity. That fear is what’s holding him back psychologically (he’s definitely gotten over his fear of heights!) Every Kryptonian he’s encountered so far has insisted that he choose between his human self-identity and his superhero persona, and he doesn’t like either option because he has to be both. For Kara to embrace a human identity and reject that either/or choice is a big deal. Clark already has his superhero persona: he’s just more Batman than Superman right now. Maybe seeing Kara reject some of those Kryptonian expectations herself and figure out her own way, like he’s figuring out his, will help him to accept that having and using all those weird alien superpowers doesn’t have to mean losing his humanity.
(I’d like it a lot better if Kara has already invented the Linda (Lee) Danvers identity herself, but I have a feeling she’ll be forced to go undercover due to the media frenzy that follows her accidental reveal.)

Voices From Krypton has a September 7 interview with Laura Vandervoort that expands on what we previously learned in the TV Guide article. Here is the full interview, minus a question about a film that Laura did before the Smallville episode.
I will post a video interview with Laura tomorrow, where you will see more of the outfit she is wearing in the picture above.
VOICES FROM KRYPTON: Each time we’ve spoken, a recurring theme was how badly you wanted to go back to Smallville. Now, of course, you’ve had that chance.
LAURA VANDERVOORT: I was so excited, because I really had a good time shooting season seven, and everyone would ask me after then, “When are you going to return?” It started becoming a theme, where the answer would be the same: “I don’t know, they haven’t asked,” and then they called.
VOICES FROM KRYPTON: Have you shot that yet?
LAURA VANDERVOORT: Oh yeah, we’ve shot it and actually I wrapped the day before we started season two of “V”, so it’s been done for quite a few weeks now. It went well.
VOICES FROM KRYPTON: Timing wise it worked perfectly.
LAURA VANDERVOORT: Yes, the timing worked. We were worried that it wouldn’t and we’d have to wait a little while, but had I started “V” I probably wouldn’t have had the chance to shoot Smallville, so we got it in there. And I just finished a film prior to doing Smallville, with Ray Liotta. So that wrapped, and then two days later I started Smallville.
< boring stuff about the film “Bring the Night” cut >
VOICES FROM KRYPTON: Stepping back to Smallville, did the experience feel different than it had back on season seven?
LAURA VANDERVOORT: It was a little strange, I hadn’t played her for almost two years. I had returned in season eight for an episode, but it was so brief, so it felt a little strange getting back into Kara. But once you get there, it’s not too difficult. I was excited and she’s almost a different character in season 10 than she was in seven or eight – she’s more mature, and she sort of figures out who she is. The tables have kind of turned, with her and Clark – in the past she would mess up and Clark would give her a lecture, and teach her about her powers, and when she returns the tables are reversed. She’s come back with more knowledge, and she’s teaching him things and giving him ideas about who he could be in the future. She definitely plays a huge role in his becoming Superman.
VOICES FROM KRYPTON: What kind of role does she play in helping him become Superman?
LAURA VANDERVOORT: She’s in the red and blue, semi-Supergirl uniform, without the S, but she does do the brunette wig and glasses, which teaches him that he can have an alternate identity. He can have a face to the red/blue blur, and still be able to walk among the people with another identity. She kind of gives him that idea. I saw the photo – so I guess it is public knowledge that she wears that – but the second part of the reason, the producers told me, about wearing that, was to give him the idea to do it, to have the courage to show his face as the red/blue blur.
VOICES FROM KRYPTON: I know the fans are going to be very happy about your return to the show.
LAURA VANDERVOORT: I hope so. And you know, I’m not sure if this is the conclusion of Kara, but I wanted to return for the fans, because so many fans at conventions are like, “V’s great, but are you returning to Smallville?” That’s been the big question, so I wanted to return for them and to give them the chance to see her in her Supergirl colors and the uniform.
VOICES FROM KRYPTON: Was it kind of cool wearing those colors?
LAURA VANDERVOORT: I actually wore those colors through the whole show, but in a different context, like jeans and a red shirt. Like Tom Welling does. But that was the first time they had made the Supergirl skirt to look similar to the comic books, and the boots are the same. It was kind of cool – it was the closest I’ve been to full Supergirl, besides owning the little DC comics Barbie Doll version of her.
Tomorrow Laura Vandervoort discusses “V” and her character, Lisa.
She has the Supergirl Barbie, aww that’s so adorable!
