(34) 2:10:22 - 2:10:58 - Some shots of Nigel, followed by a shot of Jimmy and Lucy. Nigel finds the box in which the Omegahedron was placed in.
Jimmy and Lucy's dialogue Jimmy: Better get a shot where that mountain use
to be.
Nigel's love interest (the girl from the party) reappears. Party girl: Nigel, so glad to see you, I was trying
to find you. I wanted to know more about the little bone on the right
side of a frog.
Lucy: Hey
Indo's opinion of the Director's Cut. When analysing the film in such depth, it is apparent that more of the story flows better than compared to the theatrical cut. The scenes involving the bullies dispute with Linda and Lucy is more cleared up in this version of the film. In the theatrical, there is no indication of how the grudge started and why Mira would wish to harm Lucy on the field with the ball. Lucy's defence of Linda in the dormitory scene is what caused the disputes. I thought the extra interior shots of Argo city at the beginning of the movie was a nice touch, though some elements like Kara walking for an eternity out of the dormitory were pointless and obviously cut for pacing issues. The dialogue between Nigel and Selena helped in most cases. Seeing Nigel walk away from the whole thing with the party girl in his arm at the end of the film seemed appropriate. I did enjoy the extended ending. The ending in the theatrical version seems somewhat rushed. Extra sequences concerning Zaltar were an improvement. The "Walk of Shame" shot from Argo city really showed Zaltar's self pity at losing the Omegahedron and his emotions would be displayed in full when we saw extended dialogue between him and Kara at the Phantom Zone. Shots such as these helped remove the cheese factor, not caused by Ethan and Kara, but by Jimmy Olsen and Lucy Lane. Somehow Jimmy and Lucy's extra romantic dialogue may have been best if it went on the cutting room floor. All in all, I am in favour of the Director's cut
since the scenes do in some way project what the director Jeannot Swarc
himself wanted. The commentary on the theatrical film is a delight and
thus far one of the best I've heard on DVD. While the movie is somewhat
weak and it's villains, Swarc's cut is an improvement. The extra footage
did make the Selena character more like a villain and less like a voodoo
witch. In closing, I would recommend this cut of the film as opposed to
the 124 minute theatrical version. It may change some people's views of
outright hating the film to at least seeing it as average.
