Supergirl (2016 series) Issues

The Supergirl 2016 series was part of the soft relaunch of the DC comics line known as “Rebirth”. The “Rebirth” initiative was an attempted to correct some of the New 52’s many errors by reintroducing elements from the pre-Flashpoint timelines. The series continues the story from the Supergirl 2011 series which, after cancellation, left Supergirl inexplicably missing from the comics for a year. There is an attempt to set up a new status quo for Kara that introduces some elements superficially based on the Supergirl TV series, but it lacks the feel of the TV series. This series went through the familar revolving door of creative teams whose plans were clearly hijacked by other writers’ plans. The series abruptly went on hiatus in spring 2018, in order for Brian Michael Bendis to come in on the Super-titles and set up his new sandbox. For once the series wasn’t restarted with new numbering, but it should have been. The series was finished off very ignobly after Scott Snyder inflicted his awful “Batman Who Laughs” storyline on Supergirl and 5 other characters who were “infected” (talk about beating a dead horse with that trope). The series ends July 1, 2020 after being delayed from May 2020, and there is no sign of a new series being launched.
