Mehcad Brooks Cast as Jimmy Olsen in Supergirl
JAMES OLSEN
In his late 20s/early 30s, open ethnicity, James is a smart, worldly and (duh) attractive photographer for CatCo. Though an alpha male, his salt-of-the-earth nature elicits a huge ol’ crush from Kara.
Mehcad Brooks (most recently of Necessary Roughness and True Blood) has been cast as the lovable photojournalist Jimmy Olsen, filling in the first blank in the Supergirl supporting cast. Could he be channelling Jimmy any more in this photo? Adorable. It’s good see that “open ethnicity” notice wasn’t just for show.
I haven’t seen Brooks’ previous work, but I take it True Blood fans are pretty excited :) I’m still worried about that “alpha male” nonsense, but based on this casting I’m getting excited. So as long as the character is still charming and likeable, I’m good. I really like that Jimmy isn’t being played as the entry-level young cub reporter yet again; we’ve seen that so many times already and it’s time Jimmy got to move forward.
Per Entertainment Weekly, Jimmy (sorry, James!) has “recently been living and working in National City, though the reason is still a secret”. Mmm, tell me more!
via TV Line, We Got This Covered
While the other supporting roles have yet to be cast, TV Line has revealed that CBS is looking for someone to play pilot’s villain an obscure character named Lumberjack who appeared in Wonder Woman #268 in 1980 (source: DC Wikia).
Q: Do you have any scoop on the upcoming Supergirl TV Show?
A: Kara Danvers née Zor-El will have her work cut out for her from the get-go, seeing as her adversary in the series pilot will be the DC Comics baddie Lumberjack. To that end, the CBS freshman is seeking a hulk akin to “Rory McCann, the 6-foot-6 actor from Game of Thrones” (pictured above) to play this “big, burly monster of a man, who has battled Kara’s cousin” — that’d be you-know-who — “in the past” and shows up to ascertain her level of power, on behalf of an unseen superior.
I’m guessing that superior is DEO director Hank Henshaw, and he’ll have to send someone a lot tougher than this guy!
